Example of a Reference Website

http://www.jstor.org/

Reference, or instructional, websites are search engines that are designed to help users find
information on the internet. Google, Bing and Wikipedia are popular examples of reference
websites. However, some search engines have more specific information in their databases.
For example, JSTOR is a reference website that provides scholarly papers and primary
sources for researchers and students.

A mobile app is a software application specifically made for hand-held devices that connect
to the internet. These apps provide a service for users that are on-the-go, like information
via a mobile website, instant messaging, or even games. Plague Inc. is a mobile game
application that I like to play on my free time via my iPhone.

Example of a Brochure Website

A brochure website's primary function is to provide a professional representation of
a company online. A great example of a brochure website is that of the Nickelodeon
Animation Studios. The site consists of an overview of the company's role in the
entertainment industry, a glimpse at the inside of the studio, and a report on their
featured animators. It also includes career opportunities and contact information.

Example of a Social Website

http://www.deviantart.com/

A community/ organizational/ social website encourages interactions amongst its users.
Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are notorious examples of these types of
websites. DeviantArt is another online social community, but it is specifically marketed
toward art enthusiasts. It allows amateur artists to post their pieces for peer review,
allowing them to exhibit and discuss their works.

Example of a Web Application

Web applications are interactive websites that allow users to fulfill tasks online by running
software in a web browser. These types of sites encourage functionality and convenience.
An example of a web application is Prezi, a website that allows users to present their ideas
virtually. Some of its special features include zooming in and out of content and navigating
through information.

Example of a Microsite

A microsite is a separate web page with its own domain that is associated with an existing
organization. The most popular kinds of microsites are advertisement campaigns from a
host company that focuses on a specific idea or product. Coca-Cola is notorious for their
use of microsites in their ad campaigns. An example is Coke's "What is Happiness?"
webpage which advertises the pursuit of happiness. This advertising technique correlates
Coke's products with its customers' happiness in hopes of showing them that Coke cares.

Example of an ECommerce Website

http://www.luhsetea.com/

An ECommerce website allows customers to buy products over the internet.
They can feature items from multiple sellers, like EBAY, or from a single company.
LUHSE TEA is an independent company that sells its products online, including
teas and tea-drinking accessories. The website's creatively illustrated design
entices online visitors to buy its products.

Some of My Best Work

Originally illustrated cover for an autobiographical type booklet from my Advanced Typography class.

Digital composite for Chevrolet car advertisement from my Computer Graphics class.

Illustrated movie poster for the re-release of the classic film, Gone With The Wind.

My Background and Inspirations as a Designer

Art has been a passion of mine since I was a child, but I had not taken my creative
talents seriously until I went to UC Santa Barbara. As a pre-med student I quickly
realized that I was pursuing a career I would excel in, but not a career I would love.

I immediately enrolled in art classes and I have not left the creative path since.
Through my studies in art, I found that graphic design is
a great career choice for
the creative professional. But it wasn't until I took some classes at a community
college that I recognized graphic design as the perfect outlet for
my clean and
illustrative style, my love of the entertainment industry, and my analytical mind.

I am currently a senior graphic design student at Cal State Northridge. As a
well-rounded designer, I am practiced in print production, spreads, typography,
and
logo design. However, in my experience I have found that my true passions lie

in illustration and screen printing. As an avid lover of music, movies and television,
I hope to become an in-house entertainment designer working on projects such
as album art, band branding, t-shirt design and key art for movie posters.

I have worked as a designer for the passed three years, including an internship
for
a non-profit music organization and producing flyers/ maintaining the website
for
a wholesale retailer. Currently, I am employed as the lead graphic artist for
CSUN’s Career Center where I create promotional materials for student events.
I also have experience in freelancing, creating designs for local band t-shirts,
small business logos, and the branding for a start-up video game company.

My Inspirations
  • Music Genres: Progressive, Death Metal, Grunge, Classic Rock
  • Bands: Gojira, Mastodon, Tool, Pink Floyd, Melvins, Dream Theater
  • Filmmakers: Darren Aronofsky, David Lynch, Charlie Kaufman
  • Fine Artists: Albrecht Durer, Leonardo DaVinci, Rene Magritte
  • Album Cover Artists: Storm Thorgerson, H.R. Geiger
